The method for manufacturing a screen for the color cathode ray tube comprises (a) forming black matrix (1) and fluorescent stripe (2) on the lowest adhesive-reinforced layer (4) using a polyvinyl-based undercoating solution, (b) forming a protective layer (5) on the inner wall of panel skirt to prevent the rapid thermal decomposition of polyvinyl alcohol, and (c) forming thin film (3) of metal. The protective layer consists of polyvinyl alcohol, acrylic emulsion, ammonium oxalate and pure water, while the weight ratio of four components is 1:1:1:21.
