<p>A variable display sign (10) wherein the information to be displayed by the sign comprises one or more characters, e.g. alphanumeric characters, the or each character being composed of one or more elements selected from a predetermined array of such elements. A non-transparent fascia (15) is provided with said character elements of clear form. Each character element has associated therewith an elongate member (20) having the form of an angle bracket, the two limbs (21, 22) of the bracket having different light transmission characteristics. Mounting means mount each elongate member (20) rearwardly of its associated element to be resiliently movable between a first position in which one limb (22) is in substantial registry with said element to provide a first light transmission characteristic and a second position in which the other limb (22) is in substantial registry with said element to provide a second light transmission characteristic.</p> |
