The plate type heat exchanger recovers the waste heat retained in high-temperature exhaust gas generated from a blast furnace, and enhances the heat exchanging efficiency better than a tubular one. The plate type heat exchanger comprises a plurality of heat exchanging plates, having at least two edge bars, for supplying the high-tempatature exhaught gas; a plurality of heat exchanging plates, also having at least two edge bars, for passing cool air for absorbing the heat retained in the exhaught gas; a fixing means for elastically compressing the plates, and absorbing the heat expansion of the plates; a covering means for sealing up between the plates and side panels.
