A multi-user speech recognition system includes several speech recognisers (3) which are shared between many user terminals (2). When a user terminal (2) is activated, one of the recognisers (3) is assigned to deal with voiced instructions received via that user terminal. This recogniser (3) requests the respective "templates" (4) from a memory device (5). A controller (6) handles requests from the recognisers (3) on a first-come first-served basis, and prevents later requests from interrupting earlier ones. |
