A wood planing machine has a rotary shaft (1) with a number of axially parallel grooves (2) in its periphery, with the opposite walls (3,4) converging in the radially outward direction. Each groove receives a blade (10) which is attached to holder strip (8) and clamped in place by a wedge (15). When the shaft rotates, a centrifugal force acts on the wedge so that the blade is pressed against the wall (3) of the groove. The holder strip is rigidly attached to the shaft and is elastically deformable, when subjected to the clamping force of the wedge.
