In the tensile testing (opt. to fracture) of speciments, e.g. constructional steel rods, the specimen is provided with coloured markings of specific width arranged at specific spacings in the tensile loading direction, the graduation changes in the markings due to tensile loading being individually recorded by a high resolution linear camera. Appts. for carrying out the process is also claimed. ADVANTAGE - Tensile properties can be determined accurately over the specimen length or discrete small regions of the specimen and the specimen fracture point can be predicted.
