An acidic, stable belt lubricant having lubricating, cleaning and disinfecting properties for both soft and hard water, characterised by the presence of cationic and nonionic surfactants and glycerol-based surfactants in equilibrium with glycerol and free fatty acids. In the acidic medium of the product, the following equilibrium will come about: <IMAGE> glycerol fatty acid ester glycerol free fatty acid An excess of glycerol in relation to free fatty acid and the pH ensure that the equilibrium in the product is displaced in favour of glycerol monofatty acid ester, which is included to ensure the stability of the product. When the product is diluted with water for preparing the working solution, the pH is displaced towards the pH of the water. This thereby displaces the above equilibrium towards the formation of glycerol and free fatty acid. At the pH of the working solution, the fatty acid will form soap, with the pKa being 4-5: <IMAGE> Free fatty acid soap This results in the soap properties, at the same time as the lubricating property is preserved, with the glycerol and cationic surfactants, and the relatively small quantity of glycerol monofatty acid ester also having a lubricating effect.
