An image processing apparatus, comprising: a recovery processing unit configured to, for an image subject to processing, perform recovery processing that corrects aberration of an imaging optical system used when generating the image and recover image quality degradation; a determination unit configured to determine an adjustment value for adjusting a degree of emphasis of an edge included in the image subject to processing; and an edge emphasis unit configured to perform edge emphasis processing by detecting an edge signal from the image subject to processing, adjusting intensity of the detected edge signal based on the determined adjustment value, and adding the edge signal after adjustment to the image subject to processing, wherein the determination unit determines the adjustment value based on whether or not the recovery processing has been performed for an image where the edge emphasis unit detects the edge signal, and with the adjustment value in a case where the recovery processing has been performed, degree of emphasis is suppressed compared to the adjustment value in a case where the recovery processing has not been performed.
