Systems and methods are provided for processing electronic payment from a portable device that is associated with a user to a payment network via a merchant device and a gateway. The gateway can be notified when the user is in a merchant's premises. For example, the gateway can receive a token associated with the user's portable device and then use this token to retrieve the user's profile. The gateway can also receive a payment request initiated by the user, and in response, authenticate the user based on the user's profile, process the payment request, and notify the merchant if the payment is approved. During the payment process, the user advantageously does not need to share his or her personal or financial information at the point of sale in the merchant's premises. |

1. A method for electronic payment from a portable device that is associated with a user to a payment network via a merchant device and a gateway, comprising:
receiving, at the gateway from the merchant device, a first message that comprises information indicating that the portable device that is associated with the user is within a predefined distance from the merchant device, a token received from the portable device, and location information of the merchant device; retrieving, at the gateway, a profile of the user based on the token received from the portable device, wherein the user's profile comprises a picture of the user; sending, at the gateway to the merchant device, a second message that comprises information indicating that the user is within the predefined distance from the merchant device, and the picture of the user for authentication; receiving, at the gateway from the merchant device, a payment request that is associated with the user; determining, at the gateway, if an identity of the user can be authenticated based on the user's profile and at least one of the location information or the payment request; and when the user's identity can be authenticated:
determining, at the gateway, a payment form for the payment request that is determined based on the user's profile and the payment request,sending, at the gateway to the payment network, the payment form,receiving, at the gateway from the payment network, a payment authorization, andsending, at the gateway to the merchant device, the payment authorization. |
