The network has a control station (1) communicating with a number of peripherals (3) via intermediate stations (2). The radio link between the intermediate station and the peripheral is transferred to a different intermediate station or to a path involving a number of further intermediate stations when the first path is blocked, e.g. by a parked vehicle, or when a fault in the communication chain is detected. Pref. the control station and the intermediate stations can operate at a number of different frequencies, with a different frequency selected when an attempted communication link using an initial frequency fails.
