A process for preparing copolymers of acrylic or methacrylic acids alkaline salts with macro-monomers of type I or II, where R represents the residue of low molecular aliphatic diole with 2 to 4 carbon atoms, R represents the residue of aliphatic aromatic diisocyanate, X is H or CH3 and Y=2 to 40. The mixture of acrylic or methacrylic acids alkaline salts with a macromonomer, where the mass percent of the macromonomer is 5 to 20 % by weight, calculated according to the total content of monomers, is first copolymerised in a 20 to 30 % solution with aprotic solvents, selected from a group consisting of dimethylformamide, dimethylsulphoxide, methylpyrrolidone, pyridine, in the presence of initiators, for example peroxides, azobisisobutyronitriles and similar, then the product is heated to 40 to 120 degrees C and transformed into a sodium or potassium aqueous salt or aqueous-alcoholic sodium or potassium lye.<IMAGE>
