Bulk materials, pref. in powdered form, are extracted from individual containers (2) and/or silos (4), fed to a weighing system (3) and then mixed. The material is subjected to optical, esp. spectroscopic, analysis before introduction into each container or silo, within it and esp. at the outlet. The analysis result serves as an identification value which is compared with stored comparison values. If coincidence is detected a signal is sent to the weighing system with a command to weigh out the material according to the defined recipe. USE/ADVANTAGE - E.g. for use in pharmaceutical, paint or food industries. Eliminates possibility of faulty mixtures.
