<p>A method and apparatus are disclosed for wrapping a load (12) conforming generally to a rectangular solid, such as a cotton bale. Lengths of wrapping film from two rolls (44, 46) are welded to form a pre-draped wall of such film, into which the load (12) is conveyed by conveyor (36) to cover its front face 14 and its lateral faces (22, 24), whereupon the welded lengths are welded again and are severed from such follows (44, 46). As the load (12) is conveyed, a length of wrapping film from a third roll (70) is wrapped in a helical pattern in a wrapping station (30) to cover the upper (18), lower (20) and lateral (22, 24) faces of the load (12). Moreover, generally V-shaped perforations (102) pointing toward the front face (14) are formed in the lateral faces (22, 24) by perforating mechanisms (100). Each perforating mechanism (100) comprises a pivotal arm (170) biased toward the load (12), a wheel (252) rotatable on the arm (170), and perforating cutters (292) extending radially from the wheel (252) in two circumferential arrays. <IMAGE></p> |
