The instrument comprises a stainless steel needle (1) comprising a bent tubular body (2) covered with a coat of silicone or insulating and thermally resistant varnish and a bared active tip (3) consisting of the end of a single electrical supply wire (7) which is held in the tubular body and is intended to be connected to one pole of a low-voltage HF bipolar current source. A handling grip (5, 6) through which the single wire (7) passes is fixed to the body (2) of the needle. Current is returned to the second pole of the source via a conductive plate placed on the skin of the patient. The needle (1) is intended to be introduced into a vessel via a minor incision in the skin and the damaged tissue of a varix can be burnt by intraluminal action, preserving the aesthetic quality of the operation. <IMAGE>
