Optimized highly alkaline proteases suitable for use in washing agent formulations in which the original amino acids have been replaced in two, three, four or five of the given positions by different, defined amino acids, and a process for preparing them using microorganisms transformed by mutated DNA sequences obtained by altering DNA sequences encoding highly alkaline protease produced by Bacillus species in specified positions by directed mutagenesis.
