Each vehicle passing a control point is scanned by means of a sensor in accordance with a marker carried along in a defined location on the vehicle, which characterises the emission-specific features of the vehicle, and the speed of the vehicle is measured. As the marker characterising the emission-specific features is detected, the marker is detected and classified time-domain-related with the emission-specific features of the vehicle detected from the marker. The class frequency value of the frequency table for the emission-specific class determined is incremented, taking into consideration the vehicle speed. For each emission-specific vehicle class, class-related speeds determined in a time domain at the location of measurement are used for determining in a time-domain-related manner from speed- and vehicle-class-dependent emission factor tables, the associated distance-unit-related unit emission factors from which the emission-specific traffic-related environmental stresses at the control point are determined, taking into account the class frequency values.
