Theft identification method for motor vehicles

A monitoring and inspection system is described for ensuring rightful use of motor vehicles, for identifying a theft and/or for relocating stolen vehicles quickly. The invention is characterised in that in addition to providing vehicle marking which can be electronically read and automatically evaluated in an effective manner, so making it possible to identify vehicles with involvement of the appropriate authorities, this also implements owner identification which can be electronically read in the same manner. The said owner identification is implemented by means of a motor vehicle holder card which contains at least two identification characteristics in an electronically readable fashion. The minimum data record stored on the motor vehicle holder card is composed of a vehicle identification number which is issued to the vehicle holder/owner and a secret individual number. In addition, the data record may also contain further information regarding the owner, the holder of the vehicle, the type of vehicle, police markings, etc. The motor vehicle holder card is issued instead of previous authorisation documents by the relevant authorities.
