A control device for varying the start of delivery of a fuel injection pump is proposed, in which the rate of delivery is increased at the lower full-load point without overloading the pump rated output point. A suitable open loop control is achieved by the use of a deflection piston (11) or a preloaded non-return valve (33). A feedback control serving the same purpose can be obtained by means of an element pressure sensor (35) and two solenoid valves (18, 34). The control device is intended for use in an internal combustion engine. <IMAGE>
