Photographic elements for producing blue, green and red exposure records of the same hue and methods for the retrieval and differentiation of the exposure records.

A method is disclosed for obtaining, from an imagewise exposed specified photographic element separate records for exposure to blue, green and red variation. The method comprises: (a) photographically processing an imagewise exposed photographic element comprising a support and coated thereon Ag halide layer units for recording blue, green and red radiation and which, on processing, produce images of the same hue; (b) obtaining separate blue, green and red exposure records from the element, wherein: (c) the element also comprises, between the layer unit closest to the support (1) and that in the intermediate position (2) a first interlayer (A) which transmits to (1) radiation (1) is intended to record and which absorbs, after processing, scanning radiation within at least one wavelength region, and between the layer unit furthest from the support (3) and (2) a second interlayer (B) which transmits to (1) and (2) radiation these layers are intended to record and which absorbs, af ter processing, scanning radiation within at least one wavelength region; (d) processing produces a reflective image in (1), (2) and (3); (e) the processed element is scanned utilising the absorptions of (A) and (B) to provide a first record in one of (1) and (3) and a second record in one of the other layer units; (f) the element is scanned through (A), (B), (1), (2) and (3) within a wavelength region transmitted by (A) and (B) to provide a third record representing a combination of images in (1), (2) and (3); and (g) the three records are compared to obtain separate red, green and blue exposure records.
