The invention relates to a friction lining, especially for clutches and brakes. The linings are composed of fibres, of a binder, of fillers and of friction and lubricating agents. In the manufacturing method, a mixture of the aforementioned substances is formed homogeneously, a given metered quantity of this mixture (5) is introduced into a premoulding tool (3) and compacted into the shape of a preform (8) which is then placed in a moulding tool (11, 12) and which is compressed to a reference shape in a hot-compression process. <IMAGE>
