An aqueous cleaning composition suitable for hard surfaces contains ammonia or an alkanolamine having a boiling point below 200.degree.C at atmospheric pressure, plus a cationic polymer having a molecular weight over 5,000, in an aqueous system containing an organic solvent which has a boiling point below 200.degree.C at atmospheric pressure; preferably with at most a limited amount of surfactant and other materials which do not boil below 200.degree.C at atmospheric pressure.
