The fixed (stationary), single-shaft (tandem-compound) gas turbine for power generation has a welded rotor. At least the compressor housing (2) and the turbine housing (3) are of double-shell construction. A jacket (shell) air flow is generated between the individual housing shells. It is possible thereby to avoid unequal (nonuniform) expansions of the rotor and housing to a large extent when starting up, and the blade clearances in the turbine section can be reduced. In addition, the longitudinal sagging of the machine which normally occurs during run-down is suppressed. The jacket air concept can also advantageously be extended to the waste gas (off-gas) housing (4) and the waste gas diffuser (5). The concept also contributes there to the avoidance of thermal stresses and permits the use of less expensive materials such as, e.g., ferritic steel. <IMAGE>
