Process for transformation of plant cells belonging to the species Beta vulgaris characterised in that it comprises the following successive steps: I) induction of brittle white calluses from an explant; II) dispersion of the calluses in liquid plant cell culture medium containing 0 to about 3.0 mg l<-1> of a cytokinin, or production of a cellular suspension from the calluses in a liquid plant cell culture medium containing about 0.1 to about 3.0 mg l<-1> of a cytokinin; III) placing the cellular dispersion or suspension into contact with Agrobacterium tumefaciens containing a vector carrying a gene intended to be introduced into the plant cells, followed by the coculture of the plant cells and the bacteria; IV) washing the plant cells in order to remove the bacteria; V) selection of the transformed cells on a selective medium; VI) culture of the selected transformed cells in order to obtain transformed brittle calluses. |
