FLAME-RETARDANT THERMOPLASTIC POLYAMIDE MOLDING COMPOSITION AND ARTICLE MOLDED THEREFROM

A polyamide composition which is flame-retardant, includes at least one polyamide; and at least one flameretarding additive which is at least one alkyl phosphonic .ANG. acid compound having general formula (I): <IMG> (I) wherein X = 0 or 1. These polyamide blends attain a satisfactory VO rating even with a low additive content as do molded articles molded therefrom and molded articles molded from a blend of materials including the polyamide composition and at least one further polymer selected from the group consisting of PA, PET, PBT, PC, PVC, PVA, PU, PE, PP, and PPS. The invention additionally includes use of the at least one alkyl phosphonic acid compound having general formula (I) to increase flame-retardance of one of a polyamide composition or a molded article molded from a polyamide composition, and use of the polyamide composition to increase flame-retardance of a molded article molded therefrom.
