Temperature controller for cooling system in IC engine

The temperature controller has a thermostat comprising an extending element with an element housing and a piston that travels within it. A main flow valve plate is fixed to the element housing and is sprung by an actuating spring which supports itself against the thermostat housing. A short circuit valve is provided which is sprung by an equalising spring. The main flow valve controls a coolant flow from the vehicle radiator to the water pump. The short circuit valve controls the coolant flow from the engine to the water pump. The short circuit valve is connected to the element housing and the piston is supported by the equalising spring against the thermostat housing. The spring force of the equalising spring is greater than that of the actuating spring for all positions of the piston.
