The invention relates to a container for material which is to be compressed. The container is provided with space for holding the material, with an insertion opening for introducing the material into the holding space, and with a compression component which can be moved to and fro with the aid of at least one adjustment cylinder and with the aid of which the material in the container can be compressed. The adjustment cylinder, with the aid of hinge pins, is pivotably connected both to the container and to the compression component which can be displaced with respect to the container. The hinge pins lie in holes which are present in the adjustment cylinder for this purpose. The ends of a pin, which project on either side of a hole, are clamped, by means of clamping members, against side edges of one or more support(s) attached to the compression component or the container.
