The sampler incorporates a tubular component which rotates in order to be driven down into the earth. This component has, at one end, a ring-shaped earth-cutting unit which removes material around a sample core. An inner tubular unit is concentrically arranged in the outer ring-shaped component to take up the sample core. The inner tubular unit is rotation-independent of the outer tubular unit and in relation to it is releasably fixed in an axial direction.
