Appts. for making a three dimensional fibre resin article comprises a configured mould plate and a fibre resin tape applying head movable over the mould. The head is controlled by a first system, by which it follows programmed movements to cover the area of the mould upon which the article is to be made, and by a second system, by which the surface of the mould is sensed as the head moves across it and which controls the angle of the head so that the head is always at right angles to the mould surface as it applies the tape.
