The display surface has at least one measuring field (16), with its size, shape, or position adjusted in dependence on the measured value. Pref. the display surface is rectangular with measuring scales along 2 adjacent edges, each having a respective perpendicular display pointer, with the measuring field defined between the corner edges of the display surface and the intersecting pointers, so that its surface area corresponds to the product of 2 measured values.
