The invention relates to copolymers of: a) 1 to 65 mol% of at least one diketen of the general formula (I) in which R<1> and R<2> are mutually independently hydrogen or C1-C30 alkyl; b) 30 to 70 mol% of at least one ethylenically unsaturated bicarboxylic acid or a derivative thereof; c) 0.5 to 60 mol% of at least one ethylenically unsaturated hydrocarbon; and d) up to 20 mol% of at least one other ethylenically unsaturated monomer. The invention also relates to a process for their production, modified copolymers obtainable by reacting these copolymers with NH, SH and/or OH-functional compounds, the use of the possibly modified copolymer as an additive for middle petroleum distillates and middle petroleum distillates containing them.
