PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emission element, a light emission device and a detection device that have a novel structure and can control brightness, directivity and polarization characteristics.SOLUTION: A light emission element has a photoluminescence layer, and at least one periodic structure formed on at least one of the photoluminescence layer and a light transmission layer. The periodic structure includes at least one of a plurality of protrusions and a plurality of recesses. When light emitted from the photoluminescence layer contains first light whose wavelength in the air is represented by λ, the distance between adjacent protrusions or between adjacent recesses is represented by D, the period of the periodic structure is represented by p, and the refractive index of the photoluminescence layer for the first light is represented by n, the relationship: λ/n<D<λor λ/n<p<λis satisfied. A wavelength A which provides a peak intensity in the spectrum of light emitted in a direction vertical to the photoluminescence layer through the periodical structure is deviated from a wavelength B which provides a peak intensity in the light emission spectrum of a photoluminescence material contained in the photoluminescence layer.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1B |
