The tag has a lock (1) contained in a plastics encapsulation housing (4,5), secured to the protected garment (3) by a pin (2). The lock has a closed one-piece housing (7) with an insertion opening for the pin, cooperating with a number of balls (8) adjacent the insertion opening, with a coaxial coil spring (10), biasing the balls in the direction of the insertion opening. The housing is curved inwards on the opposite side to the insertion opening, for fully enclosing the bottom coil turn of the coil spring. A washer (9) may be inserted between the opposite end of the coil spring and the balls, with a central opening for receiving the pin.
