Integrated optical signal branching device for optical communications

The signal branching device has a monomode optical fibre (1,6,7,8,9,10) and a Y branch (2), positioned at a sidewards offset (d) to the optical fibre. Both the optical fibre and the Y branch can be curved. Pref. the optical fibre and the Y branch have a width and depth in the micrometer range and are formed by ion exchange in glass, with a 1 to 16 branch structure obtained in a single chip with a length of 30 mm.
