The tool (1) comprises a handle (2) and a headpiece (3) with a rotatable holder (5) to engage the screwhead or nut. A spring (4) within the tool is fixed between the headpiece and the holder or the handle or both. The spring can be a spiral or tension or torsion or straight spring. The energy stored in the loaded spring is released by a button (6) operating on a stop (7) whilst the screw or nut is in the holder. The holder turns in the required direction relative to the headpiece. The direction of rotation can be reversed by turning the handle or by a switch. The number of rotations and the torque can be varied by interchanging headpieces.
