The device has at least one sink electrode (12,14) in active connection with a drive unit (4) so that the displacement of the electrode can be brought about by moving the drive unit at right angles to it. The drive unit can be an axially displaceable eroding rod which is conically shaped at its part actively connecting with the electrode. The electrode can be mounted by a guide pin (10) in a hollow base member (8) which holds the end of the eroding rod having a conical sleeve face (44) so that the pin is pressed against this sleeve face by a spring (30).
