A telephone exchange (1) with a speech store equipment (7), as well as a method to store voice messages in such an exchange, whereby the speech store equipment (7) is able to store voice messages arriving from a first subscriber (2) and intended for a second subscriber (3) and to send the voice messages to the second subscriber on the second subscriber's request. In case all links (x, y, z) to the speech store equipment should be busy when the first subscriber (2) calls, means (5, 6) are provided for storing the switching request, keeping a link for the first subscriber as soon as it has become idle and ringing the first subscriber,sending the telephone number of the second subscriber to the speech store equipment and thereby activating the alphanumeric memory (9) of the second subscriber and connecting the first subscriber to the speech store equipment as soon as the first subscriber has picked up his telephone handset.
