Food or beverage product comprising theanine and caffeine for enhancing mental alertness

A beverage is disclosed which is capable of delivering (a) from 80 to 500 mg theanine, (b) from 30 to 400 mg caffeine to a human via the mouth and has a mass of less than 500 g. The beverage is shown to give noticeable improvements in concentration, mental focus and/or alertness when consumed.
