Cable winding drum assembly

The winding drum assembly has a number of individual drum segments (2) fitted to a common carrier drum (1). The drum segments are rigidly connected to the carrier drum during the winding process, while they are free to rotate relative to one another during the paying out of the wound cable. Preferably, the drum segments have roller bearings (5), each secured relative to the carrier drum via a coupling pin (4), extending parallel to the axis of the carrier drum to fit through each drum segment and through the side flanges of the carrier drum.
