Described is a system with which a data-transmission network can be tested. The network consists of a number of nodes (A to I) which are connected to each other. At least one of the nodes (E) is designated to a user as being inaccessible from a first node (A). Within the network, data are available which, from the first node (A), indicate the way to the node (E) designated as inaccessible. An interrogation is carried out to determine which is the nearest node on the way from the first node (A) to the node designated as inaccessible (E). This nearest node (B) is then tested to determine whether it is accessible. If it is, an interrogation is carried out to determine this time which is the nearest node on the way from the node already reached (B) to the node designated as inaccessible (E). Again, this node (C) is tested to determine whether it is accessible. This process of interrogation and testing is repeated until the nearest node interrogated turns out to be inaccessible. This inaccessible node is considered to be defective and this fact is communicated to the user. The invention thus provides a test system which rapidly and automatically detects a defective node in a data-transmission network and indicates it to the user. |
