PURPOSE: To obtain a polyimide which can be produced through high-temp. short-time baking, has a high decomposition temp., and gives a liquid-crystal film excellent in adhesion to a glass substrate and in liquid-crystal orientation and having a high angle of pretilt by reacting a diamino compound with a tetracarboxylic dianhydride in a solvent and heating the resulting poly(amic acid). CONSTITUTION: A polyimide represented by formula I (wherein A is an ester or ether bond; m is 1-20; n is 1 or 2; R is a 1-20C alkyl or alkoxy; and B is phenyl, 3,3',4,4'-biphenyl, etc.) is obtained by reacting a diamino compound represented by formula II (wherein A, m, n, and R are each as defined above) with a tetracarboxylic dianhydride represented by formula III (wherein B is as defined above) in a solvent, dissloving the resulting poly(amic acid) in a solvent, e.g. DMSO, applying the solution to a substrate, and heating it at 180-200 deg.C for 30min. |
