A storage capacitor (5) after each discharge is rechargeable to its operating voltage. A regulating circuit (8) is provided, which switches on or off the DC voltage converter (7), depending on the voltage at the storage capacitor (5). A protection circuit (12) is provided, which influences the flash light transmission in such a manner, that the temp. of the reflector (3) and/or its front panel (4) does not exceed a specified max. temp. value. The protection circuit determines the time curve of the temp. by direct measurements at the reflector (3) and/or at its front panel (4).
