A drying installation for damp material, e.g., plastic, comprises a vaporiser through which the material is passed, where the moisture is taken up by warmed gas. The dry material is then sepd. from the moist gas. The vaporiser (28) is supplied with the damp material and the warmed gas via separate channels (21, 26) which run parallel in the vaporiser. A number of openings (26') are arranged between the gas channel (26) and the material channel (21), through which the gas passes into the material channel. The heat source is pref. an electric heater.
