An anti-skid brake system includes an ECU 37 which is responsive to the rotational conditions of the front and rear wheels and the condition of a stop switch (42, figure 2) and which operates hydraulic pressure pumps 26, 27 and electromagnetic valves 20 - 23 to increase or decrease the pressure at front and rear wheel brakes 14, 15, 17, 18 according to those conditions. However, when a decrease (reduction) of fluid pressure in a front wheel brake FR (FL) is started by operation of the pump 26 (27) and closure of the associated valve 20 (22), valve 21 (23) will also be closed for a predetermined period e.g. 100ms so that during that period fluid pressure in the associated rear wheel brake RL (RR) will be decreased (reduced) by the operating pump. <IMAGE>
