The process involves the discharge of material (4) from the spreader (1) at a moisture content below that normally adopted. The temperature of the material is then raised to between 60 deg. C and 95 deg. C by jets of steam which also increase its moisture content. Almost half of the additional moisture is then removed by vacuum.By the passage of hot air, the temperature of the material is raised closer to the polymerisation temperature of the binder set with consideration of the speed of the reaction and its moisture content is returned to its spreader discharge value before entry into the main press (3). Final compaction and complete hardening takes place in the main press.
