METHOD AND EQUIPMENT FOR TRACKING IN OPTICAL DISK PLAYER

PURPOSE: To allow a beam to accurately follow up an adjacent track in the case of jumping the beam by opening a tracking servo loop in synchronization with the jump pulse and closing at a time previously calculated after the finish. CONSTITUTION: A tracking servo unit 40 receives a plurality of input signals. One is a differential tracking error signal applied from a signal acquisition unit 30, second inactivates the unit 40 as applied from an operating generator 47 via a line 102, and third is a motion compensating pulse applied from a motion stopping unit 44. The unit 40 opens the loop when the radiated beam is moved from one track to the adjacent track and supplies a jump pulse to move between the adjacent tracks. The zero-crossing point of the tracking error signal obtained during the supplying period of the jump pulse is detected by the detector of the unit 44 to stop the jump pulse, and the loop is closed at a previously calculated time after the jump pulse is finished.
