The system, esp. for igniting an anti-tank rocket, consists of a first offset detection assembly (10) which provides an electric detection signal when the target arrives in the weapon's field of action, and a second optical position detecting assembly (20) which delivers an electrical signal when the target is in a predetermined direction. Circuits for processing the signals from the two assemblies are connected to a rocket ignition circuit. The second position detecting assembly (20) comprises a prim. optical and sec. position-locating sub-assemblies (21, 21') to provide signals when the target is at two given angles, determining its velocity. At least one of the two sub-assemblies has a multi-cellular vertical detection bar with infra-red detectors, situated between 0.80 and 1.20 m above ground level. They have optical detectors capable of illuminating the target with narrow beams, and a timing circuit.
