PURPOSE: To utilize adsorption points of adsorbent particles as far as possible to increase the quantity of adsorption by carrying out surface treatment of a carrier with a solution of a flocculant consisting of a cationic organic polymer electrolyte as a main component, and depositing zeolite with a specified particle size on the surface of the carrier. CONSTITUTION: Ceramic fibers 5 are mixed with a solution of a flocculant consisting of a cationic organic polymer electrolyte as a main component to carry out surface treatment of the ceramic fibers. The surface treated ceramic fibers 5 are mixed with an adsorbent powder 6 consisting mainly of zeolite with 0.5-10μm particle size and a binder containing Si as a main component and the resultant mixture is formed into a sheet-like shape by paper manufacturing method to give an adsorbing material. Consequently, the adsorbent powder 6 are carried on the sufaces of the fibers 5 and, since the adsorbent has three- dimensional structure and is porous, the specific surface area of the obtained adsorbing material is expanded and inner diffusion of an adsorbed substance proceeds easily at the time of adsorption. Further, since heat can easily be transmitted at the time of regeneration, adsorption and desorption can be carried out efficiently.
