A process for monitoring the liq. level in the washing container of a washing machine uses a program control unit and at least one level sensor which permits the registering of at least one reconnection point corresponding to a minimum water level, and several different switch points corresp. to a max. water level. The switch point monitored during a program section is reduced during advancing program running time or in accordance with a condition variable that alters with the running time of the program.
