A guide slide, particularly a chain tensioner for a camshaft drive unit of an IC engine, has a base component with a guiding pad mounted to it to control the chain. The base component (12) has a U-shaped cross-section (16) on its side facing the guide pad (14), and the pad is mounted via this profile. The pad also has a U-shaped profile (20) and its web section (22) contacts the web of the section of the base component. The location of the pad to the base is such that some sliding movement is provided relative to each other, in the direction of the chain guide.
