PURPOSE: To speedily start to guide a driver when a destination is set by searching an optimal route to a present place from the destination on the basis of a searching result by a present place periphery searching means after the destination has been set. CONSTITUTION: A CPU 1, an azimuth sensor 3, a car speed sensor 7 and a GPS receiver 12 constitute a present place detecting means, the CPU 1 constitutes a present place periphery searching means, a crossing extracting means, a selecting means and first to fourth route searching means, and a CRT constitutes a display means, respectively. When a stopping condition of a vehicle is detected, an optimal route reaching respective crossings in its periphery from a present place is searched on the basis of a road map, and after a destination has been set, a route searching means corresponding to waiting time up to departure is selected. An optimal route to the present place from the destination is searched on the basis of a searching result of the present place periphery by its route searching means. Next, the optimal route of a selected searching result is displayed on the road map. |
